Brian W. Legate, M.S.W.
Principal & Educational Consultant
Mr. Legate founded Summit Educational Consulting in the summer of 2006 following his tenure at Washington University in St. Louis admissions recruiting and student services management.
He came to George Warren Brown School of Social Work in December 1997 as Admissions Coordinator. In this position, he was responsible for admissions recruitment efforts, in particular students of color and international students. In 1999, Mr. Legate was appointed Director of Admissions. In this role Mr. Legate lead the Admissions Office in its daily operations to recruit and retain a high quality and diverse student body for the Brown School. Recruitment efforts included annual travel to over 100-college campuses nation wide and numerous conferences and meetings to present on the future trends in social work and specifics regarding the MSW program at the Brown School. Coordination of other travel efforts by faculty, staff, students and alumni. Management of the annual direct mail campaign to prospective students and college contacts. Mr. Legate also managed the decision making process for over 600 admission applications annually and over 200 merit based scholarships.
Previously, Mr. Legate was Director of Allocations and Planning at United Way of Yakima County (Yakima, WA). As Director, Mr. Legate coordinated the annual distribution of over $2 million of United Way and Federal grants to 35 separate local non-profit corporations. During his 4-year tenure (1989-1992), Mr. Legate developed a new funding system based on programs rather than agency funding.
During the 1992 congressional election cycle, Mr. Legate provided campaign management services for the Jay Inslee for Congress Committee. Following the successful campaign, U.S. Representative Jay Inslee appointed Mr. Legate to lead his district office transition and staffing process. Mr. Legate served as Congressman Inslee's Field Representative until his move to St. Louis in September of 1993.
As Senior Consultant at the United Wayof Greater St. Louis -- Management Assistance Center (1993-1997) Mr. Legate coordinated the volunteer management consultant and non-profit management training programs. He also coordinated the internship program and served on the mission development, technology planning, and human resources teams.
